Team Quest in a Box

Team Quest Club

The Team Quest Club is a program that has been designed to challenge students in teamwork. Working together in groups is a skill that every child will need in the 21st century workforce. This program allows teachers to present projects and challenges that incorporate creative problems solving, real world problems, and higher level thinking skills.
This program includes everything to set up the club. All materials, instructions, grading guidelines, and activity extensions are included.

What is needed to implement a Team Quest Club?

1. Each school would be required to have 1-2 teachers, parents, or administrators that are willing to take responsibility for implementing the club format into their campus.
2. A Team Quest Club presentation can host as the kick-off event for students to join the club at their school. Students would be given enrollment forms and asked to return them to the teachers at their campus.
3. Clubs would meet twice a month for about two hours either during or after school. The Club Director will be in charge of facilitating the activities. Students would be placed in teams of two, three, or four. On some days the director will design the groups. At other times the groups will be selected at random or the students can choose their groups. These formats will be changed at each meeting.
4. Students will earn points for each activity they participate in. The students in that group will carry the points to the next week. Each student will accumulate an individual score based on their team’s performance each week.
5. The activities will be pre-selected for each meeting in the Team Quest Club directors guide. All of the materials, directions, and assessment formats will be provided in the Team Quest Club director guide which is part of the kit.

Engineering/Building Project-The package will provide project ideas and outlines for building projects. We would provide the instructions and materials to do the whole project.

Creative Thinking and Artistic Design-The kit includes several creative design activities. Teams will use creative thinking to design a Team Quest Club Newspaper, write and draw a comic strip, and come up with a marketing plan for a new product.

Archeology Units-In this activity teams will have to “dig” up artifacts and either reconstruct or catalog the items to figure out how they came to be in that spot. Each group receives a block of a plaster type material that they must chip away to get to the artifacts. Once they have recovered the items they complete the appropriate activity.

Career Investigation Projects-Teams will have the opportunity to experience what it might be like to walk in the footsteps of a car designer, cartoonist, or costume designer. As a group the students will select a topic to work with. They receive their materials and assignments. The teams will research their chosen career, producing a product, and writing about the experience. At the end of the activity each team will have produced a project they can be proud of.

Warm Up Activities-At the beginning of each event the students should complete a 10 – 20 min warm up activity to help the group get aquatinted.

Build Your Own Games-As an extension to the board game idea, teams will create a game of there own. Blank board game kits can be provided for the students to use as the basis of a project.
